The group Spandau Ballet is known for their massively popular hit “True.” The song had become such a phenomenon that it was used in several movies for weddings and other pivotal scenes. So powerful, upon its first release, the song became one of the most overused through the passage of time. Here are the top five uses of Spandau Ballet’s “True” in movies.

“Sixteen Candles” (1984)

The movie “Sixteen Candles” features Spandau Ballet’s “True” which had only been out for a year at the time that the film was made. It was played as the song for the backdrop during the scene of the school dance. We hear it for about a minute in total time, but it is known as the song that inspired the look that helped Molly Ringwald to be chosen for as the main event for a cover on Time Magazine in the 1980s, which was quite a feat in that era. She is seen staring wistfully at Jake as he dances with another girl.

“The Wedding Singer” (1998)

This is also the song that Steve Buscemi sang and the wedding of Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore’s characters. Sandler played the role of a guy that sang for weddings and bar mitzvahs for a living. Barrymore was a waitress for the catering service that served the guests. Working for the same company, the two met and became friends. Both engaged to other people at the time that they met, it didn’t appear that there would be a romance between them. As things tend to do in real life, they went south for both of the characters. Sandler’s fiance ditched him at the alter on the day of the wedding. Barrymore’s fiance was a lying, cheating scoundrel and in the end, she chose the wedding singer over him, breaking up, just before their nuptuals.

“Not Another Teen Movie”

In this parody film about a collage of different teen sensation movies, the song “True” is playing in the background. You can hear it midway through the scene where one woman is slipping another the tongue during a passionate kiss. This isn’t a clip that is appropriate for all audiences, but it’s one of the uses of the Spandau Ballet’s song “True.”

“Pixels” (2015)

The song “True is also played in the movie “Pixels.” This is the film about an alien attack upon the Earth. Kevin James plays the role of President Will Cooper who turns to a childhood friend who has earned the reputation of being the video game champion. Cooper believes that his old friend can help them as the interception of arcade game video feeds were misinterpreted by the aliens and caused them to attack.

“Charlie’s Angels” (2000)

The Spandau Ballet song “True” was played in this scene as Drew Barrymore turns on the charm. The lovely member of Charley’s Angels Dylan who is the tough girl in the group definitely has two sides. We see her working her female wiles in this scene to the backdrop of the song.
