The year is 1899.

Wealthy industrialist Oswald Mandus (voiced by actor Toby Longworth) awakes in his bed, wracked with fever and haunted by dreams of a dark and hellish engine. Tortured by visions of a disastrous expedition to Mexico, broken on the failing dreams of an industrial utopia, wracked with guilt and tropical disease, he wakes into a nightmare. The house is silent, the ground beneath him shaking at the will of some infernal machine: all he knows is that his children are in grave peril, and it is up to him to save them.

With no idea of how much time has passed since his last memory — as he struggles to his feet — somewhere beneath him, an engine splutters, coughs, and roars into life…

Key Game Features:

  • Fresh and new approach to the Amnesia world while staying true to its origins.
  • The darkest, most horrific tale ever told in a videogame.
  • Stunning soundtrack by award-winning composer Jessica Curry.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I survive creature encounters?

During your journey you will come across strange creatures, lurking in the darkness. Here are some ways to survive these situations:

• Remember that is not a shooter and that you are not an action-hero. Encounters in Amnesia are very dangerous and you need to be careful and alert to survive. First of all make sure to hide and stay still. Creatures will have more trouble spotting you if you crouch, don’t move and stay in darkness.
• When you know where the enemy is, you can try and sneak past it. To do this stay crouched and in darkness and move carefully. If you accidentally bump into something you might be heard and spotted. Of course sometimes it is just best to stay put and wait until the danger is over.
• If you are spotted, you need to run for it. This can be done by holding down the “Shift” key and moving towards where you want to run.

How can I access my Journal’s Documents & Memory Scribbles?

You enter the journal by pressing the “J” key on your keyboard. Once inside the journal you have two different choices:

• Found Documents
Documents that you have previously found. You can click on the right / left arrows at the bottom to change page or click on the middle, downward arrow to exit the entry.

• My Journal
These are important memory scribbles that can be of great help progressing through each level if you find yourself stuck somewhere.
When a scribble is added you will see a journal-icon flashing in the lower right corner of the screen and hear a scribble-like sound. You can quickly check the scribbles by pressing the “M” key on your keyboard. Use the arrows at the bottom of the screen to navigate.

How to stop the game from running at a low frame rate and being very jerky?

What are the basics of interaction in the game?

Most of the basic interaction is done using simulated physics, meaning that the exploration of new objects is very intuitive. All interactions are started by pressing the left mouse button and certain special actions can be made by pressing the right mouse button while the left is kept down.

To interact with an object it first needs to be in focus. This is done by aiming the crosshair in the center of the screen at the desired object when close enough. Once an object is in focus, the possible interaction depends on the icon shown. It should all be very intuitive and the instructions below should only be used as a reference. A quick glance should be enough if you have not yet started playing.

• Default
The grabbing hand icon represent the widest range of interactions and exactly how you interact depends on the object in focus. In all interactions, except for static objects, you simply make a mouse movement while holding the mouse down. See below for a list of all possible mouse movements.

• Push
To push an object, just hold down the left mouse and then use W, S, A and D (the movement keys) to move the object about. Pressing right mouse button gives the object a hard push.

• Pick
The squeezing fingers icon appear when an item is in focus. When clicking left mouse the item in focus will be picked up.

– Enter Level Door
The door icon means that the object in focus is a level door and if the left mouse button is pressed, a new level will be loaded. Always try and make sure that the current level has been investigated thoroughly before entering a new one!

• Climb
To climb an object (usually a ladder of some sort) just press the left mouse button (no need to hold it down) and then press right mouse or space (jump) to dismount.

What are the default interaction types you’ll encounter during gameplay?

Amnesia Dark Descent Walkthrough Ps4

When the default interaction icon is displayed, the object can be one of ones listed below.
Note that these will all be explained in-game if hints are enabled (which they are by default).

• Grab
Click and hold down the left mouse button to pick up the object. You can then move about while carrying the object, although you might be a bit slower if it is a heavy object. If you are in need of a precise placement of the object, hold down R (or middle mouse button) and move the mouse to rotate the object. If you press the right mouse button you will throw the object in the direction you face, which can come in handy when you want to use the object to break something.

• Door
To open or close a door just move the mouse in the direction you want it to go while holding down the left mouse button. When pressing the right mouse button, you let go of the door and give a hard push in the direction you are facing.

• Drawer
To open a drawer or similar object, just hold down the left mouse button and move it in the direction you want the drawer to move – just like the door interaction. Also like the door interaction, pressing right mouse gives the drawer a hard push in the direction you are facing.

• Lever
Simply move the mouse, while holding down the left mouse button, to move the lever to either end.

• Wheel
When you are interacting with a wheel or a lever, move the mouse in a circular motion in the direction (clockwise or counter-clockwise) you want it to move.

• Static Object
Some object that are too large or have no real way of being interacted with, just require a press on the left mouse button (and there is no need to hold it down). A sound and/or text should instantly be presented when you do this and it will be very clear that no further action is required.

How to save the game progress?

The game takes care of all saving and you do not have to worry about it when playing.
When you are done playing simple, press Escape and choose “Exit and Save” in the menu. You can now start playing from where you left of by pressing “Continue” in the main menu the next time the game is started.

Chapter 1: Mansion Intro

Welcome to the Amnesia A Machine for Pigs walkthrough! Doug & Cody will be your voice-over commentators showing you around the game’s levels.

Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs is a slow paced horror game and is meant to be played alone in a dark room, late at night. It is not a game that is meant to be won. The goal is the immersion itself and to live the game’s world and story.
For the best effect make sure that the gamma is set correctly in the main menu’s “Advanced Options” graphics options, and wear headphones that have the volume cranked up (but not too loud obviously). The game creator’s desire above all else is to give the player an uncomfortable and haunting experience and doing these preparations will drastically increase the intended effect.

The core gameplay of Amnesia is the exploration of the environment, to discover clues and to survive, both physically and mentally. Make sure to investigate the surroundings at a gentle pace and be wary of any strange sounds – it can be vital to your survival.

Hint #1: When holding an object, press on the right mouse button to throw it. Hold down the “R” key while moving the mouse to rotate the object and look at it from different angles.

Hint #2: Hold down the left mouse button and move the mouse in order to move the door. Press the right mouse to throw the door open or shut, depending on the direction you face.

Hint #3: Before you can progress beyond the start of the game, you’ll need to find a lantern to use first. The lantern location is in the right side of the attic; to get to the attic from the starting room walk up the stairs to the first floor, where from the ceiling you can pull down a fold-out stairs to get to the attic. — The Lantern can be turned on by pressing the “F” key on your keyboard (or the “X” button if you’re using a controller). It can be used to find your way through dark areas. Be careful not to attract unwanted attention with the beam of light it emits.

Hint #4: To push or pull heavy objects like storage boxes around, you have to hold down the left mouse (or RB right shoulder button on controllers) while moving up/down/left/right with the W/S/A/D keys on your keyboard (or the left stick up/down/left/right movement on controllers). And if you want to do a strong push in the direction you face, you have to press the right mouse button (or LB left shoulder button on controllers).
To move objects that are light enough to pick up, you can move the mouse while holding down the left mouse button (or RB right shoulder button on controllers).

Hint #5: To move any lever you encounter, you must hold down the left mouse button (or RB right shoulder button on controllers) and then move your mouse (or the controller’s analog stick for movement) in the direction you want to move the lever in.
The same instructions apply to moving a (pipe) wheel by holding down the left mouse (or RB button) and doing a Circular Motion with the mouse (analog stick) to turn the wheel in the same direction that you’re rotating towards.

Chapter 2: Basement Exploration

During the introduction to the mansion we were told by a mysterious stranger on the phone that we must: restore the power, drain the flooding, and restart the foul machine’s engines in order to free the inventor/experimental doctor Mandus’ encaged children. It begins by exploring the basement to find the needed white fuses.

Crouching Tip: Crouching is used get through narrow passages, investigate items on the ground and to hide. Press the Control (“Ctrl”) key on your keyboard (or the “B” button on a controller) to toggle crouching on and off.

Jumping Tip: Jumping is used to climb obstacles. Press the “Space-bar” in order to jump.

Running Tip: Running is used to escape from dangerous enemies. Press the “Shift” key on your keyboard to run in the direction you’re going, preferably away from the enemy that’s looking to kill you LOL.

Chapter 3: Livestock and Bibles in the Church

Next, we pay a visit to the St. Dunstand’s church. In the church’s basement, go through the Piston Rooms and into the tunnels, to find the bilge and flush the rotten water out.

Note: Health will be decreased whenever you are sustain some kind of injury. For example, from a hard blow, long fall, etc. It goes without saying that if your health reaches zero you will die.

Chapter 4: Sabotage in the Flooded Sewer Tunnels

Moving on from the Piston Room, we take the elevator down, despite the saboteur’s best efforts to stop us by making the lift fall. Continue into the tunnels to flush out that really very dirty water while avoiding what’s swimming in it. Find the way to the bilge pumps, drain the flood from the sewer tunnels*, and get one step closer to free the children.

*Hatch Puzzle Solution: To get through the sewer tunnel’s hatch, go in and activate the controls in this order: Pull the green/red light lever up, turn the first pressure valve to the right to close the hatch, pull the chrome lever down, then the last step is to wait for the pressure to change to the valve near the direction you’re going and turn the second pressure valve to the right to open up the second hatch (your exit).

Tip: Whenever you see a document folder in the bottom-right corner of your screen it means a note has been added to the Journal. Press the “J” key on your keyboard (or Y button if you’re using a controller) to read it. For quick access to your notes (Found Documents & My Journal), you can press the “M” key on your keyboard. — Make sure to check these journals whenever you get stuck!

Chapter 5: The Pump Rooms

We enter a dining hall for pigs? Best not make any noise. Make your way to the pig prisons, and take the stairs and corridors further down as ‘The Dark Descent’ continues. “What could possibly go wrong?” What indeed.

We arrive at the huge bilge pumps, the saboteur’s efforts have left them disabled. Time to switch them on again by finding their controls in the Pump Rooms. After the flood is drained, go back into the hatch exit. Then we can make our way to open the Compound X containers and cross the catwalks towards the ignition controls to start the machine up again.

Tip: Look around extra carefully in each level to make sure that you have not missed anything. The more important items should be fairly visible, so as long as you make sure to visit every room in a level, you will find everything of importance to your progress.
